Holi 2026 Skin Care Guide: Holi is the one day when you are least bothered about your skin. Everyone is busy smearing colours on each other’s faces. Skincare feels pointless. After all, you are going to be covered in colours anyway, so why bother? But ironically, Holi is the one day your skin needs the most protection. If you step out without prepping your skin, you may not notice the damage immediately.

After playing Holi, being covered with colours for hours, you will notice dry patches, unexpected tanning, breakouts, irritation, or stubborn pigmentation. The combination of harsh synthetic colours, prolonged sun exposure, sweat, and repeated washing can severely compromise your skin barrier.

Sunscreen vs Oil: Which Is Better For Holi?

Ms Aashka Goradia Goble, Co-founder, RENÉE Cosmetics, states, “For years, many believed that applying oil before playing Holi was enough. While oil can create a slight barrier and help remove colours later, it is not sufficient.” She added, “Oil does not protect you from UV rays. And during Holi, most celebrations happen outdoors, often between late morning and afternoon when UV radiation is at its peak. This is where sunscreen has evolved from being an everyday essential to a festival-ready shield.”

Additionally, modern sunscreens are no longer greasy; they are not heavy creams that melt under sweat. With the evolution of sunscreen, as per modern times, they are now lightweight, water- and sweat-resistant, and designed to withstand harsh outdoor conditions.

Simple Holi Skincare:

- Start with a moisturiser to strengthen your skin barrier.

- Follow it with a generous layer of sunscreen on your face, neck, ears, and even arms.

- Let it absorb fully before applying a thin layer of oil if you want to.

- Reapplication is ideal if you are going outdoors for long hours.

Ms Aashka Goradia also suggests using a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or above) that protects against both UVA rays (which cause premature ageing and pigmentation) and UVB rays (which cause sunburn). Because, during Holi, when your skin is already under stress from colours and friction, UV damage can intensify inflammation and tanning.
