The kidneys get rid of extra fluids and waste by making urine. This natural filtering process works better when you drink enough water. But drinking a lot of water doesn't help the kidneys get cleaner or stronger. In fact, putting too much water into the body can sometimes put more stress on the kidneys and make the blood's important electrolytes less concentrated.
To know how much water the kidneys really need, The Daily Jagran turned to Dr Varun Mittal, Head - Kidney Transplant and Associate Chief - Uro-Oncology & Robotic Surgery (Unit I), Artemis Hospitals.

1. Listening to your body is a simple way to learn how to stay hydrated. Thirst is a natural way for the body to tell you it needs fluids.
2. The colour of your urine can also give you a hint. Urine that is light yellow or pale straw colored usually means that you are well hydrated. Dark yellow urine, on the other hand, may mean that you need to drink more fluids.
