Yet, people often deal with it in silence, embarrassment, treat it like taboo, shame and are often surrounded by myths. With social media becoming a major source of misinformation, many myths are widely shared and believed without question. These myths also lead to fear, poor health choices, delayed treatment, and unnecessary stress, especially among the young population.
Therefore, to know the reality behind these reproductive health myths, we turned to an expert. In conversation with The Daily Jagran, Dr Neha Tripathi, Fertility Specialist, Nova IVF Fertility, Indirapuram, listed some popular myths linked to reproductive health.

1. Myth: You Cannot Get Pregnant the First Time You Have Sex
Fact: The doctor said, "Pregnancy can happen any time unprotected sex occurs, even the very first time. There is no 'safe first time.' Ovulation and sperm fertilisation do not depend on sexual experience. So, don’t believe any false information circulated on social media."
2. Myth: Menses Means Painful And Irregular
Fact: The doctor said, "Mild discomfort during periods can be normal. However, periods when comes along with severe pain, heavy bleeding, or irregular cycles call for a timely expert intervention. These symptoms can indicate hormonal imbalance, PCOS, endometriosis, or anaemia."

3. Myth: Contraceptives Can Lead To Permanent Infertility
Fact: The doctor said, "No, contraceptive methods like pills, intrauterine devices (IUDs), and condoms do not cause permanent infertility. However, always consult an expert before taking medications and medical treatment."

4. Myth: Contraceptives Make Fertility Difficult
Fact: The doctor said, "Fertility usually returns once the contraceptive method is stopped. This myth prevents people from using contraception, leading to unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortions."
5. Myth: Only Women Need to Worry About Reproductive Health
Fact: The doctor said, "Reproductive health is equally important for men. Understand that issues like sexually transmitted infections, infertility, erectile problems, and hormonal disorders affect men too and can give them a tough time. Men must consult an expert and manage the problems."
