Healthy Office Habits For World Health Day 2025: World Health Day is celebrated annually every year on April 7 to raise awareness on various diseases, mental health issues and the need for preventive care. This day marks the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO), a specialised UN organisation that looks after global public health, established in 1950. The day is commemorated to take meaningful actions in improving health systems and overall well-being. In today’s time, people generally spend most of the hours at office. Workplace habits play a significant role in physical and mental health. Thus, it is important to maintain wellness habits at the office.

Most people spend their significant portion of their week seated at desks, glued to the screen while maintaining the pressure of the fast-paced work environment. It becomes extremely important to stay healthy at the office. Some tweaks in the office lifestyle routine can help you upgrade your wellness game at your workplace. Here’s a list of six wellness habits that you can practice to stay healthy at the office.

Office Health Tips For World Health Day 2025

Good Posture

Office employees have to sit for long hours can make their spine and muscles suffer strain. Ensure that the office chair supports your lower back, your computer is at the eye level and your feet rest flat on the floor. Maintaining good posture at the office can reduce the risk of back pain, fatigue and long-term musculoskeletal problems. Adjust your workstation accordion to your need and remind yourself to sit upright throughout the day.

Frequent Breaks To Move Around

Long sitting hours can pose risks to the health, causing illnesses like obesity, heart disease, and poor circulation. It is important to stand up every 30 to 60 minutes, stretch or walk around the office. Even light movement improves blood flow, energises and reduces stiffness and fatigue.

Hydration

Dehydration can lead to headaches, tiredness and poor concentration. Thus, it is important to keep yourself hydrated during office hours. Keep a water bottle handy and sip regularly. Aim for at least six to eight glasses of water daily. Also, indulge in herbal teas and fruits like oranges or cucumbers and avoid too much caffeine as it can cause dehydration and lead to a dip in energy.

Healthy Snacks

Avoid eating chips and cookies during working hours, even though they seem to be tempting. Instead, opt for nutritious and healthy snacks like nuts, fruits, yogurt, roasted chickpeas, or granola bars. They not only provide long-lasting energy but also avoid sugar crashes and keep you full, keeping unnecessary cravings at bay. Do not skip meals and carry home-cooked lunches when possible for better portion control and nutrition.

Screen Time

Long office hours make people stare at screens all day, causing eye strain, eye dryness and headaches. Follow the  20-20-20 rule, that is, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Adjust the screen brightness and position the screen to reduce glare. Blink often and take occasional eye breaks to prevent strains.

Deep Breathing Or Meditation

Managing work stress is the key to good health. Take short breaks to practice deep breathing, mindfulness and quick meditation sessions. These healthy practices help lower cortisol levels, calm the mind and improve focus and emotional balance. Practice five minutes of deep breathing and you’ll see a noticeable difference.
