Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu on Thursday replied to a letter from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the recent aircraft accident in Baramati that claimed the lives of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others. 

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched an investigation into the accident, and the aircraft’s black box has been taken into custody.

Investigation will follow Aircraft Accident and Incident Rules, conducted transparently and within a set timeline.

All technical, operational, and site-related details are being examined, and the final report will be shared with the state government.

On the sudden demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, BJP MP Anurag Thakur said that it has created “a huge vacuum in Maharashtra's politics.”

Speaking to news agency ANI, he said, “When I heard this news yesterday, I couldn't believe it. We all stand with his family... I will only say that the plane crash should be investigated. The reasons should be found out. Maharashtra has lost a big leader, and we have lost a friend.”

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s funeral was held at the Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati, where his sons Parth and Jay lit the pyre. His wife Sunetra Pawar, a Rajya Sabha member, was also present.

Among those who attended the funeral were Union ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and Murlidhar Mohol, former Union minister Sharad Pawar, BJP president Nitin Nabin, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.

On Thursday morning, officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and forensic teams reached the crash site in Baramati to investigate the plane crash that claimed the lives of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and 4 others. 

The 16-year-old Learjet aircraft, operated by VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd, crashed while attempting a second landing approach at the airport, which is an uncontrolled airfield where traffic information is typically provided by instructors and pilots from local flying training organisations.

Several prominent leaders and dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar, and actor Riteish Deshmukh, attended the funeral and paid their last respects to late Ajit Pawar on Thursday.

Thousands of people, gathered for Ajit Pawar's last rites, chanted "Ajit Dada amar rahe" when his mortal remains, draped in the national flag, were brought from his village, Katewadi, to the Vidya Pratishthan ground.

The victims of the Baramati plane crash included - Ajit Pawar, Captain Sumit Kapoor, who had 15,000 hours of flying experience, co-pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, with 1,500 flying hours, Personal Security Officer (PSO) Vidip Jadhav, and flight attendant Pinky Mali.
