In a tragic incident in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, a speeding tempo mowed down a group of pedestrians at Chirag Nagar, Machhi Market on Thursday. The accident tragically claimed the life of a woman and left five others injured.
The victims, who were crossing the road in the bustling market area, were struck by the tempo, which was reportedly speeding through the crowded streets. Following the incident, the injured individuals were immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of those involved.
The accident occurred around 6:30 PM near Azad Masala Shop on Machhi Market Road in Chirag Nagar, Ghatkopar, when a Tata mini tempo (MH 05 EL 1951) lost control and ran over pedestrians. The driver, Uttam Baban Kharat (25), reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing the incident.

Tempo Driver In Custody After Fatal Crash
The driver of the Tata Mini Tempo, Uttar Kharat, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to mount the pavement and strike pedestrians. Kharat has been taken into custody, and authorities are investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol. The police are working to determine the circumstances of the accident, while the local community expresses concern over pedestrian safety in the area.

The woman who died in the incident has been identified as Preeti Ritesh Patel, 35, a resident of Bhagirathi Chawl in Ghatkopar West. “Kharat said he lost control of the vehicle after he suffered an epilepsy attack. He has been detained for questioning and his claims are being verified. He will also be sent for a medical examination," the source said, as reported by NDTV.
