Bhaum Pradosh Vrat 2024: Significance Of This Sacred Fast

Hindus observe Pradosh Vrat, a sacred fasting day, in order to appease Lord Shiva. In the traditional Hindu calendar, it occurs on the thirteenth day, or "Trayodashi," of every lunar fortnight. This suggests that every Hindu month contains two Pradosh Vrat observances: "Shukla Paksha," which marks the waxing phase of the moon, and "Krishna Paksha," which marks the waning phase of the moon.

The sacred Pradosh vrat falling on a Tuesday is known as Bhaum Pradosh Vrat. Tuesdays, or Mangalwars, are ruled by the planet Mars, also known by the term "bhauma," which is another word for "Mangal." The best time to carry out the Bhauma Pradosh Vrat rites is thought to be around sunset.

Hindu Puranic literature states that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are in the most pleasant and favourable of moods at this time. On this day, devotees worship Lord Shiva and fast in order to reap the benefits.
