Lathmar Holi is celebrated a day after Laddu Maar Holi. The celebrations for Lathmar Holi begin in Barsana, where the men from Nandgaon arrive to play Holi. The Gopis (women) welcome them with sticks, while the men protect themselves with shields. The same scene unfolds in Nandgaon the next day. This tradition is not about hostility, but about the love and joy of Radha and Krishna.
Lathmar Holi is played in Barsana as a continued tradition of the pastime between Shri Radha Rani and her sakhis, with Shri Krishna and her Sakhas. It is said that Shri Krishna and his friends were so mischievous that they used to smear and drench all the gopis with colours on Holi, and therefore, to protect themselves, Radha Rani and her sakhis used to beat Thakur Ji and her friends with sticks.
