Many people buy rudraksha for spiritual growth, protection and healing, but they do not know how to purify and energise it. If it's not properly energised or activated, one cannot unlock its full potential and receive its benefits.

Let's understand in detail how rudraksha can be purified and energised at home easily.

What Does Energising Rudraksha Mean?

Energising Rudraksha means performing specific rituals to unlock the bead’s natural energies. Though Rudraksha beads are naturally powerful, as they formed from the tears of Lord Shiva, energising them aligns their energy and intention with the purpose for which you wish to wear Rudraksha.

When Should You Purify Or Energise The Rudraksha?

A person should energise or purify the rudraksha in the following circumstances:

  • When the rudraksha is new
  • After receiving a gifted rudraksha
  • When it is not used for a long time
  • After someone else has worn or touched your rudraksha
  • At the time of Maha Shivratri, Navratri, or during auspicious muhurats
  • When exposed to dirt, sweat, or pollution
  • After illness or emotional stress

Step-by-Step Ritual To Perform At Home

1. Before the energisation process, one should first purify the rudraksha by cleaning it with gangajal or clean water. This removes dust and prepares the bead for the ritual.
2. Then dip it in unboiled cow milk for about 10 minutes (this step is optional)
2. Then rinse the rudraksha, place it on a clean cloth, and allow it to dry. Avoid direct sunlight and do not use a hair dryer to dry it.
3. Now for abhiskeam, place the rudraksha on a copper plate and offer panchamrit to the Rudraksha while chanting 'Om Namah Shivaya.' The Panchamrit is believed to nourish the bead and remove impurities.
4. After the Panchamrit bath, rinse the Rudraksha again with pure water to remove any residue from the Panchamrit. Then, perform a final Abhishekam with fresh Ganga Jal.
5. After this, create a paste of Chandan (sandalwood paste) and Bhasma (sacred ash) and apply it to the Rudraksha gently.
6. Offer fresh flowers, such as white flowers, Dhatura, or Bel Patra (Bilva leaves).
7. Light a ghee lamp (diya) and an incense stick (dhoop) nearby to create a sacred and purifying atmosphere.
8. Then, for energisation (pran prathista), sit facing the East direction, and chant the Rudraksha Beej Mantra 108 times: ‘Om Hreem Namah’ (for 5 Mukhi Rudraksha) or, based on the Mukhi type, chant that specific mantra. You can also recite Om Namah Shivaya for general energisation.
9. Meditate for a few minutes and focus on your intention of inviting Lord Shiva's divine energy into the bead while holding it.
10. After this, your rudraksha is purified and energised, and you can wear the Rudraksha on Monday or during an auspicious muhurat.
