India added two more medals to its Asian Games 2026 tally on Monday as Pincky Balhara secured a bronze in kurash and Lovlina Borgohain assured herself of a medal after reaching the women’s 75kg boxing semifinals.

Balhara signed off with bronze in the women’s -78kg kurash event after losing 0-5 to South Korea’s Sumin Mo in the semifinal.

Meanwhile, Lovlina produced a composed performance to defeat South Korea’s Seong Suyeon 5-0 in her quarterfinal and book a place in the last four.

Pincky Balhara Wins Kurash Bronze

Balhara’s run in the women’s -78kg category ended in the semifinals against Sumin Mo. The South Korean earned a Yonbosh point, while Balhara was handed a Dakki penalty during the bout.

Despite the defeat, the 27-year-old secured her second Asian Games medal. Balhara had previously won silver in the women’s -52kg category at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, when kurash made its debut at the continental event.

Earlier on Monday, Balhara defeated another South Korean, Garam Lim, 3-0 to advance to the semifinals.

The Indian secured the decisive score through a Chala, which is awarded when a competitor throws the opponent but does not maintain complete control of the move. Lim was unable to register a point during the bout.

Balhara’s bronze adds another medal for India in kurash at the Asian Games.

Lovlina Borgohain Assured Of Boxing Medal

Lovlina Borgohain, meanwhile, continued her impressive run on the international stage by reaching the women’s 75kg semifinals.

The Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist defeated South Korea’s Seong Suyeon 5-0 in the quarterfinals to guarantee herself at least a bronze medal.

Lovlina had won silver at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023 and is now assured of a second consecutive podium finish at the continental event.

The Indian boxer started strongly against Seong, using her jab and cross to establish control. Her 1-2 combinations repeatedly troubled the South Korean, who struggled to find clean connections despite having a slight height advantage.

Lovlina To Face Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova

Lovlina will now face Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova in the semifinal.

Bogdanova is the reigning world champion in the 70kg category, setting up a challenging last-four contest for the Indian.

She also joins fellow Indian boxers Parveen Hooda (65kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg) and Narender Berwal (+90kg) in the semifinals after the trio advanced on Sunday.

Later on Monday, Priya Ghanghas (60kg) and Kapil Pokhariya (90kg) will look to join their compatriots in the semifinals as they compete in their respective quarterfinals.
