Roshibina Devi has assured herself of a third successive Asian Games medal after beating Macao, China’s Chu Man Sin 5-0 in the women’s 60kg quarterfinals on Tuesday.
The Indian wushu star produced another strong performance at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall in Nagoya to book her place in the semi-finals.
Roshibina, who has already won medals at the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games, will now fight for a place in the final on Wednesday. Her latest win has also given India its first confirmed medal in wushu at the ongoing Asian Games.
Roshibina Continues Asian Games Run
Roshibina defeated Bangladesh’s Shika Khatun in the pre-quarterfinals on Monday before making it two wins in two days with a 5-0 victory over Chu Man Sin.
The 60kg fighter won the bout on points and will now have the opportunity to add another medal to her Asian Games record.
Roshibina won a bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games before finishing with silver in the same Sanda 60kg category at the 2022 edition.
She will be hoping to go one step further this time and fight for gold.
Aryan Also Advances
India’s Aryan also progressed to the quarterfinals in the men’s 56kg category.
He defeated Afghanistan’s Safi Shahzada 2-0 in the pre-quarterfinals and remains in contention for a medal.
Hanjabam Finishes Ninth
Earlier on Tuesday, India’s Hanjabam Langlentombi Devi finished ninth in the women’s Nanquan and Nandao final.
She scored 18.839 points in the event.
India’s Nyeman Wangsu had finished 15th in the women’s Changquan final on Monday.
Suraj Misses Podium By Fine Margin
India’s Suraj Singh Mayanglambam also came close to winning a medal in the men’s Changquan final on Sunday.
Suraj finished 11th among 21 competitors at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall with a total score of 9.683 points.
He received 5.00 in Quality of Movement (A-Score), 2.00 in Degree of Difficulty (C-Score) and 2.683 in Overall Performance (B-Score). He had no deductions.
Macao’s Kuong Chi Hin won the gold medal with 9.723 points, while compatriot Chi Kuan Song took silver with 9.720.
Suraj finished just 0.040 points behind the bronze-medal mark, underlining how closely contested the final was.
With Roshibina now assured of a medal, India have their first confirmed wushu podium finish of the Asian Games, while Aryan remains in the hunt for another medal in the men’s 56kg category.
