India won a silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event at the Asian Games on Friday, with Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Niraj Kumar and Rudrankksh Patil putting together a strong performance at the Aichi Pref. General Shooting Gallery.

The Indian trio finished with a combined score of 1762-94x to take second place. China won the gold medal with 1766-95x, while South Korea claimed bronze with 1751-87x.

There was further good news for India as Aishwary and Niraj also booked their places in the individual final, which is scheduled to take place later on Friday.

The result provided a boost to the Indian shooting contingent, which had come under pressure after failing to win medals in the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol events. The rifle team added another medal to India’s tally, while Suruchi Phogat and Kamaljeet had earlier won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

India Strong Across All Three Positions

India began the team event strongly, scoring 587 points across the two kneeling series.

The shooters continued their impressive run in the prone position, adding 593 points from the two series. That took India’s total to 1180 after the first two positions.

The team then scored 582 points in the standing series to finish with 1762-94x and secure the silver medal.

Aishwary was India’s highest-ranked shooter in the individual qualification, finishing third with 589-34x. Niraj followed in fourth place with 588-34x, while Rudrankksh finished ninth with 585-26x.

Suruchi, Kamaljeet Set Asian Record

India had more reason to celebrate in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, where Suruchi Phogat and Kamaljeet won the gold medal.

The Indian pair produced a superb performance in the final, combining for 484.6 points. Their score was enough to beat the Republic of Korea and also set a new Asian record in the final.

Suruchi and Kamaljeet stayed composed throughout the contest despite the pressure of the final. Their consistency helped them remain at the top of the standings and eventually secure another gold medal for India.
