Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh added another Asian Games medal to his collection after winning silver in the men’s 10,000m at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

Gulveer clocked 28:29.38 to finish second behind Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who won gold with a time of 28:27.51. Another Bahraini runner, Albert Kipto, took the bronze after finishing in 28:34.18.

The result means Gulveer has improved on the bronze medal he won in the same event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Another Major Medal This Year

The silver is another significant achievement for Gulveer, who has continued to produce strong performances on the international circuit.

Earlier this year, he won silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 28-year-old is also a serving Naib Subedar in the Indian Army and has established himself as one of India’s leading long-distance runners.

Record-Breaking Run In Recent Years

Gulveer enjoyed a particularly successful 2025, winning gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea.

He currently holds Indian national records in the 5,000m, 10,000m, one mile and half marathon.

In 2025, Gulveer became the first Indian to run a mile in under four minutes when he clocked 3:55.63. He also became the first Indian to complete a half marathon in under an hour, finishing in 59:42.

He later created more history by becoming the first Asian athlete to break the 13-minute mark in the indoor 5,000m, recording 12:59.77.

Training In The United States

Gulveer has been based in Colorado Springs in the United States, where he has been training as he prepares for major international competitions.

His latest Asian Games silver adds to an impressive period for the Indian distance runner and further underlines his progress on the international stage.
