India added two more medals to its tally at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 on Thursday as weightlifter Lovepreet Singh claimed a silver medal and discus thrower Seema Kaliramna secured bronze, giving the country another successful day in Glasgow.

Lovepreet's iconic show in Glasgow

Lovepreet produced one of the best performances of his career in the men's +110kg super-heavyweight weightlifting event at the Scottish Event Campus. The 28-year-old lifted brilliantly throughout the competition before narrowly missing out on the gold medal by just one kilogram.

The Indian lifter started strongly in the snatch, clearing all three of his attempts at 168kg, 173kg and 176kg. His final lift of 176kg set a new Commonwealth Games record and gave him a healthy 10kg lead over his closest rival after the opening section.

Lovepreet looked well on course for gold, but the clean and jerk turned into a thrilling contest. He successfully lifted 212kg on his second attempt but failed to clear 217kg.

New Zealand's David Andrew Liti then produced a stunning 223kg lift in the clean and jerk to set a new Games record. With a total of 389kg, Liti finished just one kilogram ahead of Lovepreet, who ended with an impressive total of 388kg to take the silver medal.

The competition also saw a major surprise when Samoa's Sanele Mao, one of the pre-event favourites, failed all three of his snatch attempts at 175kg and crashed out early.His exit opened the door for Lovepreet, who grabbed the opportunity with confidence and delivered a memorable performance.

The silver medal marked another big achievement for Lovepreet, who had won bronze in the 109kg category at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.His latest result showed his steady progress and confirmed his place among India's top weightlifters.

Seema Kaliramna clinched first CWG medal

India also celebrated success in athletics as Seema Kaliramna won the bronze medal in the women's discus throw at Scotstoun Stadium.

The 27-year-old registered her best throw of 58.66 metres on her third attempt. Although it was slightly below her personal best of 59.73 metres, it was enough to secure a place on the podium after a closely fought contest.

Seema finished ahead of fellow Indian Nidhi Rani, who placed fourth with a best throw of 57.10 metres.

Jamaica's Samantha Hall won the gold medal with a throw of 61.66 metres, while Canada's Julia Tunks claimed silver after recording 60.67 metres.

Interestingly, Seema managed only two valid throws out of her six attempts, with her other successful effort measuring 57.32 metres. Despite that, her best throw proved enough to earn India another medal.

The bronze was a special moment for Seema as it was her first medal at a major international event. Beyond the athletics arena, she is also a PhD scholar and the mother of a four-year-old son.

India's medal tally and rank in CWG after Lovepreet and Seema's medals

With Lovepreet's silver in weightlifting and Seema's bronze in athletics, India continued its strong medal-winning run at the Commonwealth Games 2026. India are currently ranked 10th in the medals tally with 17 medals, including three gold, 10 silver and four bronze.
