India’s para-athletes delivered a record-breaking performance at the Asian Para Games 2026 on Wednesday, with Sachin Sarjerao Khilari defending his shot put crown with a new Games record and Praveen Kumar striking gold in the men’s high jump.
India also completed a clean sweep of all three medals in the men’s shot put F46 event, underlining its dominance in the field competitions.
Praveen claimed the men’s high jump T44/64 gold medal with a Games-record performance of 2.05 metres. His compatriot Banti also delivered an impressive performance, clearing 1.92m to secure silver with a personal best.
Uzbekistan’s Temurbek Giyazov finished third with a jump of 1.86m, completing the podium in the combined event.
Praveen’s gold added to India’s medal tally, while Banti’s silver ensured a one-two finish for the country in the high jump competition.
Praveen Kumar Sets Games Record In High Jump
Praveen produced a clearance of 2.05m to take the top spot in the men’s high jump T44/64 event. Banti followed with a personal-best effort of 1.92m, earning the silver medal ahead of Giyazov.
The T44 and T64 classifications are often combined in para-athletics competitions to ensure sufficient participation and fair competition. T64 is for athletes with lower-limb impairments who use a prosthesis while running, whereas T44 generally covers athletes with lower-limb impairments who compete without a prosthesis.
The result highlighted India’s strength in para-athletics, with both Praveen and Banti finishing among the top performers in the event.
Sachin Khilari Leads India’s Shot Put Clean Sweep
India secured all three medals in the men’s shot put F46 event, led by Paris Paralympics silver medallist Sachin Sarjerao Khilari, who successfully defended his Asian Para Games title with a Games-record throw of 15.87m.
Khilari saved his best effort for his sixth and final attempt, surpassing the previous Games record of 15.67m. The performance secured another gold medal for the Indian athlete, who had also won the event at the previous edition of the Games in China.
Mohd. Yasser claimed silver with a throw of 15.06m, achieved in his third round, while Parveen took bronze with 14.94m. The result gave India a complete sweep of the podium in the discipline.

The F46 classification is for field athletes with an above- or below-elbow amputation, or an equivalent upper-limb impairment. Athletes compete from a standing position, generating throwing power through their hips and legs.
India Add To Para-Athletics Medal Haul
The twin successes underlined India’s strong showing in athletics at the Asian Para Games 2026. Praveen and Banti secured gold and silver in the high jump, while Khilari, Yasser and Parveen occupied all three podium places in the shot put.
