Indian badminton star PV Sindhu has secured qualification for the BWF World Tour Finals 2026, ending a five-year wait to feature in the prestigious season-ending tournament. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed her qualification on Wednesday, November 4.
The two-time Olympic medallist will return to the competition for the first time since 2021. The 2026 edition is scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, from December 9 to 13, bringing together the leading players of the season.
Sindhu's qualification comes after an impressive late-season run, which saw her win two titles and reach another final on the BWF World Tour.

The 31-year-old began her resurgence by winning the Japan Open Super 750 title in July, defeating Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 in the final. It was her first Super 750 title since 2019 and a significant milestone after a prolonged wait for major silverware.
She continued that momentum at the French Open, where she finished runner-up after losing to South Korea's An Se-young in the final. Sindhu then capped her European campaign by winning the Hylo Open Super 500 in Germany, defeating Denmark's Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in just 39 minutes.
The Hylo Open triumph proved particularly important in her race to qualify for the season finale.
PV Sindhu Opens Up About Her Comeback And Improvement
Speaking after her recent success, Sindhu credited her support team for helping her rediscover her best badminton. In an interview following her Hylo Open victory, she highlighted the importance of adapting her training and making smarter decisions as her career progresses.
"I think definitely, yes, hats off to my whole team. We've been planning accordingly because, as you keep growing, it's important to get your things better and be smarter in what you choose," Sindhu said.
She also acknowledged that there was still room for improvement despite her recent results, suggesting that she is not satisfied with simply returning to winning ways.
Earlier in July, after winning the Japan Open, Sindhu spoke about the doubts surrounding her career and how she continued believing in herself despite criticism.
"Lot of people were like what's happening? Is it done? Or whatever it is. Still I believed in myself and my family and my coaches," she said.
Sindhu Set For Another Major Season-End Challenge
Sindhu's return to the BWF World Tour Finals marks another milestone in a season that has seen her regain consistency against leading international opponents.
Her recent performances have also demonstrated her ability to compete across different tournament conditions and sustain her level against top-ranked shuttlers.
The Indian will now look to carry her momentum into the Hangzhou season finale, where she will aim to finish 2026 on a strong note.
