The bizarre sequence began when a Uruguay Montevideo player launched the ball high into the air with a huge clearance.
The ball continued to travel beyond the stadium before landing on the highway running alongside the ground.
A white car approaching the ball suddenly braked after the football landed on the road. However, the vehicle behind it was unable to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the white car.
The entire incident was captured by the match broadcast, turning an otherwise ordinary football match into a surreal spectacle.
How Did The Football Cause The Accident?
The ball appeared to have travelled a considerable distance after the clearance before dropping onto the road.
Its unexpected arrival forced the driver of the white vehicle to react quickly and brake. The black car travelling directly behind then collided with it, resulting in a rear-end crash.
Fortunately, the incident appeared to be limited to damage involving the vehicles, with no major injuries reported in the footage.
