There was a time when a thinking and talking robot or a chat assistant was a thing that movies showcased as a thing of the future or even science fiction, but we are in an era now that it has become a reality. This concept of Artificial Intelligence is not in the future anymore and is a part of our current reality. From talking chatbots to something that can even code or organise things for you, AI has slowly cascaded into our lives. It is helping people in streamlining and even fast track there workload even gain access to information faster, that too in multiple languages. It has gone as far as disease detection as well, and is very much a part of our daily lives.

Therefore, we celebrate AI Appreciation Day on July 16 of every year. It is not just about how big a technology is, but the concept revolves more around the fact that this technology has embedded itself in our daily lifestyles, and it also means that understanding it is also important.

Currently, all the buzz is around generative AI tools, and how it revolves around us; apart from just bringing creative acumen and capacity, there are many other concerns that have come to the fore. Now there are also debates around job losses, misinformation, and concerns over privacy and security that have intensified in the past few years. This day brings much more to the table than mere appreciation, but also a podium to hold conversations.

What Is AI Appreciation Day? And Why Does It Matter?

AI Appreciation Day is more than just a celebration of technology. It is a reminder of how artificial intelligence has quietly become part of our everyday lives, while encouraging people to understand both its strengths and its limitations instead of seeing it as either a miracle or a threat.

Today, AI is being used almost everywhere. In addition to being an AI appreciation day, it also serves as a reminder of how much artificial intelligence is embedded in the life of individuals on a daily basis without even knowing it. Artificial intelligence makes a lot of tasks much easier for individuals ranging from doctors detecting diseases to students learning better and for businesses, agriculture, and banks to perform their daily tasks. Also, artificial intelligence is emerging as the first choice of designers, writers, developers, and video editors to make routine work faster.

But AI isn't perfect. It can still get things wrong, reflect biases and lacks human judgement, which is why it works best as an assistant rather than a replacement. At its core, AI is most useful when it helps people make better decisions, not when it tries to make them for us

Government And Industry Leaders React

There has been increasing investment from Governments across the globe towards AI, and schemes and processes are being implemented in a way that harnesses the growth of AI more responsibly. The Indian govt also took to X (Twitter) on this day and appreciated the role of AI in an interesting way. India is taking strides when it comes to AI development and has its own missions and ambitions in place while keeping this technology at the heart of it.

The IndiaAI Mission is one such initiative which aims to build and strengthen AI infrastructure, help build start-ups and also make high-quality data and information much more accessible.

Industry leaders have also laid down their opinions on the same, and have gathered to showcase the role of AI and how it has helped multiple industries' workforces and processes and how AI is becoming not just a part of our personal lives but also in industries and offices.

He added further, "India generates nearly a fifth of the world's data yet captures only a fraction of its value. Closing that gap is our defining opportunity: to build a sovereign AI stack rooted in indigenous semiconductor design, trusted compute infrastructure, and world-class engineering talent. The intelligence economy will be led by the nations that master the full stack, from silicon to systems to software. That is the stack India is building, and the one LTSCT is proud to help design."

He also added, "Yes, only 16% of IT professionals have AI skills. Yes, AI-related job demand has crossed 1 million roles this year. But that gap is also our opportunity. We have the scale, the talent pipeline, and engineers who can build AI the right way from the beginning. The ones who understand that every system they create should make humans better at what only humans can do. That's the future we're building."

He also added, "Looking ahead, the role of AI will continue to expand beyond the shop floor into areas such as procurement, supply chain management, receivables automation, and intelligent decision-making.  For a glass and packaging business, the real opportunity over the next few years isn't AI as an add-on—it's AI embedded in every quality checkpoint and every plant decision, so consistency and yield improve continuously rather than through one-off projects.”
