Apple doesn't update the iMac as frequently as its other products, and it looks like that won't change with the next-generation model either. The company last refreshed the all-in-one desktop in 2024, when it brought the M4 chip along with some new colour options. Now, a new report suggests that Apple could finally have another iMac in the works.

Apple could launch a new iMac with M6 chip
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is currently working on a new iMac powered by its upcoming M6 chipset. However, if you're expecting Apple to give the desktop a completely new look this time around, that probably isn't happening.
In the Q&A section of his Power On newsletter, Gurman said the upcoming iMac is not expected to be a "blockbuster overhaul". In other words, the overall design should remain pretty much the same. The M6 chip is likely to be the main attraction, while Apple could also make some changes to the available colour options.
That wouldn't exactly be surprising. Since moving to Apple silicon, the iMac has followed a rather unusual update cycle. Apple brought back the redesigned 24-inch iMac with the M1 chip in 2021, skipped the M2, and then updated it with the M3 in 2023. The M4 model followed in 2024, meaning the company also skipped the M5 for the iMac.
If the M6 version arrives in 2026, it would once again leave a two-year gap between iMac generations.
What does the current iMac offer?
The latest iMac is still built around the same 24-inch design and comes with a 4.5K Retina display offering a 4,480 x 2,520-pixel resolution. Buyers can also configure it with Apple's nano-texture glass option.
Apple currently sells the iMac in Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Silver and Yellow colour options. In India, the base model starts at Rs. 1,74,900, offering an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16GB RAM and 256GB storage.
The most expensive configuration goes up to Rs. 3,67,900 and comes with 32GB RAM, 2TB storage, a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU.
For now, Apple hasn't announced anything about a new iMac. But if the latest report turns out to be accurate, the 2026 model could be a fairly straightforward upgrade: new M6 silicon, possibly some fresh colours, and the same familiar iMac design.
