Not much time has passed since the launch of the iPhone 17 Series, and yet the internet is buzzing with what Apple will bring next. The highly anticipated foldable by the Cupertino-based tech giant is what fans and enthusiasts alike are looking forward to. Renowned analyst Jeff Pu, in a note to the investors, had shared some details that might give us a peek into what Apple's latest innovation in the foldable segment could bring.

iPhone Fold Expected Specs

Jeff Pu has detailed a few things about the rumoured foldable that are consistent with alleged leaks that have popped up earlier. Apple could be taking a slightly unexpected route with its first foldable iPhone. Instead of Face ID, the company may rely on Touch ID for authentication. This may be a big step backward for those who find Face ID to be fundamentally more secure. It is not yet clear whether this decision is due to technical challenges or cost considerations, but it is worth noting.

On the built front, the iPhone Fold is claimed to employ a combination of aluminium and titanium for the body. The hinge is rumoured to be made out of a combination of titanium and liquid metal, which would allow it to remain solid despite constant bending. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also speculates that the phone could be fitted with two front 18MP cameras, one at the inner display and another on the outer screen. On the rear, Apple is expected to make use of a dual-camera assembly comprising two 48MP sensors.

Display sizes are also starting to line up across leaks. The outer screen is said to measure 5.3 inches, while the inner foldable display could stretch to 7.8 inches. While there’s no clarity on the aspect ratio yet, earlier rumours point towards a 4:3 layout instead of a square-like design. If true, this would give the iPhone Fold a more tablet-style look, similar to the iPad mini.

That approach could actually work in Apple’s favour. A 4:3 inner display would allow the foldable iPhone to run existing iPad apps more naturally. The trade-off, however, could be a relatively smaller cover display. As always with foldables, this largely comes down to user preference, especially since many current devices already lean towards squarer screens.

When it comes to pricing, details remain fuzzy. Pu doesn’t mention pricing in his investor note, but rumours haven’t stopped circulating. Some estimates suggest the iPhone Fold could cross the $2,000 mark, with higher-end predictions going as far as $2,399. A few reports do hint at a sub-$2,000 price, but even then, it’s safe to assume Apple’s first foldable iPhone will sit firmly in the ultra-premium category.
