It’s doing all that while quietly taking back a camera change that long-time Galaxy users just couldn’t swallow. In One UI 8.5 Beta 2, the features have returned to its launcher as suddenly as they were removed in the previous beta build. When they were cut earlier this month, there was a bit of an uproar from photo fans that rely on Samsung’s more gimmicky camera modes.
One UI 8.5 beta came along initially, which focused on slight UI refinements and stability enhancements. But in the process Samsung got rid of Single Take and Dual Rec from the default Camera app, without so much as an explanation. That shift pointed to the company potentially simplifying the camera experience, but perhaps at the expense of more advanced tools.
Features now guaranteed to return, and where to find them
But now, as per SamMobile, both features have returned with One UI 8.5 Beta 2 – albeit with a little catch. Instead of just showing up by default in the Camera app, Single Take and Dual Rec can now be reactivated using Samsung’s Camera Assistant app.

Camera Assistant is offered through the Galaxy Store. In the app, there are buttons for Single Take and Dual Rec under the “Additional modes” section. As soon as you turn it off, both options will re-emerge in the main Camera app, returning this functionality to those who were missing it.
This strategy indicates that, through the default camera interface, Samsung is trying to keep things as clutter-free as possible for casual users while also providing advanced modes to those who actively seek them out.
What do Single Take and Dual Rec do?
Single Take is for times you’re too lazy to fuss with your settings. With a tap and a quick sweep of the camera, the phone stows those images away, as well as several short video clips in various styles, to let its AI choose highlights later.
Dual Rec, on the other hand, enables recording from two cameras at the same time, usually front and rear. It’s great for vlog-style shots, reactions or content that needs context and the subject to be in focus.
By moving these things over into Camera Assistant, Samsung seems to be reclassifying them as extras rather than core camera functions.
One UI 8.5 rollout roadmap and eligible devices
If recent accounts are to be believed, the public release of One UI 8.5 is due in juxtaposition with the Galaxy S26 series – reportedly scheduled for release at the end of February or early March. Samsung will then reportedly bring the update over to its older devices in a gradual way from March to June 2026.
Eligible devices are:
Galaxy S Series: Galaxy S26 (pre-installed), S25, S24, S23, S22 series, and S21 FE.
Galaxy Z Series (Foldables): Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 4, and Z Flip 4 series.
Galaxy A Series: Including models like the Galaxy A73, A56, A55, A54, A36, A35, A34, A26, A25, A24, A16, A15, and A06.
Galaxy M and F series: Galaxy M56, M55, M54, M36, M35, M34, F56, M55, F54, F36 and F34.
Galaxy Tab series: Galaxy Tab S11, S10, S9, S8 series Including Tab S6 Lite (2024) and Tab A9/A9+
For now, the return of Single Take and Dual Rec should be of comfort to those worried that Samsung was starting to retire some of its more inventive camera goodies. They are still here — just tucked away for the few people who really want to use them.
