Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget 2026 speech on Sunday, announced significant measures to strengthen the Udan scheme, aiming to make air travel more accessible to smaller cities and the common citizen. The budget emphasises upgrading airport infrastructure, including runways, terminals, and navigation systems, to facilitate this expansion.

The announcement is expected to accelerate the growth of Hindon Airport, a rapidly developing airport in the district. Flights from Hindon have already commenced to cities such as Jaipur, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Goa, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Adampur, Kishangarh, Patna, Nanded, and Bathinda, with plans to introduce services to Prayagraj, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur.

Efforts for the airport’s expansion have been ongoing for some time, with 7.5 acres of land earmarked for development yet to be acquired. Officials have confirmed that land acquisition discussions are underway and are expected to be completed soon.

MP Atul Garg welcomed the move, stating that connecting smaller cities through air travel will significantly contribute to regional development and economic growth.
