A case of dowry harassment has been filed against a retired professor from MMUT and his family. The daughter-in-law filed a complaint at the Gorakhnath police station, alleging harassment, assault, and demands for dowry. Following this, the police registered a case against Prof. Govind Pandey, his wife Sudha Pandey, son Utkarsh Pandey, and their daughter, and have launched an investigation.

Allegations Of Pre-Wedding Demands And Wedding Day Dispute

Saumya Mishra of Shivnagar Colony, Gorakhnath, told the police that she was married to the professor's son, Utkarsh, in February 2024. She stated that even before the wedding, her husband and others would call her to expensive hotels and make her bear the expenses. However, no one raised any objections. After the wedding, during the bride's farewell ceremony, a demand was made for silver coins for the groom's party. Her father refused as he was unable to make the arrangements. He apologised, stating that he could only provide the agreed-upon dowry, which included a Bolero car, 1,000,000 in cash, jewellery, and other items.

Harassment And Assault After Marriage

The harassment began after she arrived at her in-laws' home. She tolerated everything and told no one, hoping the marriage would last. Later, her husband began to physically assault her. When she protested or complained, her parents-in-law would also support their son. When she threatened to complain to her own family, the accused allegedly assaulted her and threw her out of the house.
