The Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) has moved to expedite the Khorabar Township and Medicity project by initiating compulsory land acquisition for the remaining plots that are obstructing development. Although the authority acquired most of the land for the project around 15 years ago, approximately 11,420 square metres remain unacquired, with sporadic constructions such as tin sheds and boundary walls impeding progress.

To reclaim the land, the GDA has sent a letter to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) requesting a date for demarcation of the affected plots in Khorabar and Jungle Sikri. GDA officials, along with Tehsil staff, will oversee the demarcation process to ensure accurate recording of the ground situation and prevent confusion during acquisition.

Earlier attempts to purchase the land through mutual agreement with farmers did not succeed, making compulsory acquisition the only viable option. The GDA board recently approved the proposal, providing administrative backing to move the project forward. Vice-Chairman Anand Vardhan emphasised that land acquisition is crucial for smooth implementation and stated that officials have been directed to take prompt action.

Plots Proposed for Acquisition:

-Khorabar: 2,020 sq. metres (Gaata Nos. 869, 470, 892, 847)

-Jungle Sikri: 1,870 sq. metres (Gaata Nos. 754, 756, 757, 758); 3,980 sq. metres (Gaata Nos. 749, 750, 751, 752, 753); 3,250 sq. metres (Gaata Nos. 668, 692, 694, 698, 877, 740, 671, 672, 673, 698); 320 sq. metres (Gaata No. 840)

The GDA stated that once demarcation is complete, acquisition and development work will proceed at a rapid pace, aiming to ensure the timely implementation of the township and Medicity project.
