Gorakhpur New Year Security: Police Ban Riverbank Parties, Announce Route Diversions

Gorakhpur police are on alert for New Year celebrations. Security has been increased in crowded places such as the Gorakhnath Temple, Naukavihar, the Rail Museum, and parks on December 31 and January 1. Celebrations on the banks of rivers and ponds in rural areas have been prohibited. Individuals arriving from outside the area are being monitored, and preparations are in place to take action against any troublemakers. Special arrangements have been made for traffic management and parking.

Ahead of the New Year celebrations, the district police have ramped up security measures to ensure public safety on December 31 and January 1. Security agencies are maintaining strict vigilance on individuals arriving from outside the city, and a comprehensive security plan has been formulated to manage the expected crowds at major public places.

General Security And Rural Guidelines

Surveillance: Patrols have been increased at all main picnic spots, malls, and public gathering areas.

Rural Restrictions: Celebrating with DJs on the banks of rivers, lakes, and ponds has been strictly banned to prevent accidents and disturbances.

Intelligence Gathering: Police are coordinating with Village Heads (Gram Pradhans) and Watchmen to monitor activities in rural areas.

Force Deployment: Additional police personnel have been called in from the zone to assist local station staff.

Location-Specific Security Arrangements

1. Gorakhnath Temple: As the temple expects the largest footfall on the first day of the New Year for darshan and the Khichdi Mela, security has been tightened significantly.

- Deployment: Civil police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) will be stationed at the venue.

- Technology: Surveillance will be conducted using CCTV cameras and drones.

- Logistics: A specific site has been designated for vehicle parking to manage the flow of traffic.

2. Ramgarhtal and Boating Area: With over 100,000 visitors expected to visit the lake, go boating, and dine at restaurants on December 31 evening and January 1, major traffic changes are in place.

- Traffic Restrictions: Vehicular movement will be restricted on the boating route to manage the crowd.

- Coverage: Police are deployed on all approach routes, including Kudaghat and the ring road from RKBK.

- Objective: To provide security for families and take strict action against troublemakers.

3. Rail Museum: Located beyond University Square, the Rail Museum is a hotspot for families and children.

- Traffic Management: Police will direct vehicles to the vacant parking area behind the museum to prevent road congestion.

- Speed Control: Traffic police will be stationed to prevent speeding on the adjacent roads.

4. Budhiya Mata Temple and Vinod Van: To ensure safety in the areas bordering the forest:

- Forest Patrolling: Police will patrol the Kusmhi forest area to prevent young people and families from wandering deep into the woods, which could lead to mishaps.

- Security: Personnel will be stationed within the temple complex and Vinod Van. The police noted that criminals who were previously active in this forest area have already been arrested and jailed.

Official Statement

SSP Rajkumar Nayyar said, "Preparations have been completed for the security of crowds gathering on December 31 and January 1. Officers have been called in from the zone to support local police. We will keep a special watch on troublemakers. Celebrations on the banks of rivers, lakes, and ponds are prohibited. Vehicular movement will be closed on crowded routes, and parking arrangements have been made."
