Lucknow RWA Installs First Community Solar Rooftop Under PM Suryaghar Scheme; Saves Rs 20,000 Monthly
A Resident Welfare Association (RWA) has installed a 15-kilowatt solar rooftop plant under the PM Suryaghar Yojana scheme.

In a landmark step for renewable energy in Uttar Pradesh, the Surya Apartment RWA on Gokhale Marg, Lucknow, has become the first community to install a solar rooftop plant under the central government’s PM Suryaghar scheme. The 15-kilowatt capacity plant is expected to save the association up to Rs 20,000 per month on electricity bills while supporting the state government’s green energy initiatives.

The project, costing Rs 8.1 lakh, received a central grant of Rs 2.7 lakh under the scheme, which allows installation of solar plants up to 500 kilowatts for common areas including lighting, fans, lifts, and water pumps in RWAs and Group Housing Societies.

Since becoming operational, the plant has not only reduced monthly electricity expenses by Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000 but also improved amenities for residents. Officials said this initiative reflects the Yogi government’s vision of promoting clean energy, achieving self-reliance in power, and encouraging environmental sustainability.

The Uttar Pradesh Energy Department and DISCOMs are actively assisting RWAs to avail benefits under the PM Suryaghar scheme. The government has urged all RWAs and Group Housing Societies across Lucknow and the state to adopt solar rooftop plants, contributing to the move towards green energy.
