Meerut Emerges As Major MSME Hub; Rs 8,000 Crore Investments To Boost Employment
An investment of Rs 8,000 crore is set to be made in Meerut, for which entrepreneurs have purchased land.

Meerut is poised for rapid industrial and infrastructure growth, with investments worth nearly Rs 8,000 crore lined up across the MSME, residential, and commercial sectors. According to officials, several projects have already taken off, while preparations for others are nearing completion.

The Uttar Pradesh government is set to organise a Ground Breaking Ceremony (GBC) early next year, likely by February, as part of the Investors Summit. Named GBC 5.0, the event will showcase investments that have already materialised or are on the verge of implementation. Meerut was given an investment target of Rs 10,000 crore for 2025, of which around 80 per cent has already been achieved, the District Industries Centre said.

Deputy Commissioner of Industries Deependra Kumar said the Rs 8,000 crore pipeline includes both the expansion of existing industries and the establishment of new units. Companies such as Paswara Paper Mill and Mini Metro are planning to set up new facilities. Mahavir Packaging, which last year developed an industrial “Plug and Play” park for MSMEs, has signed an MoU for Phase-II of the project this year.

Significant investments are also being made in the residential and commercial real estate sectors. Agreements have been signed with developers, including Imperial Courtyard, Paras Estate, and Dwarka Heights, while a residential colony on the Bijli Bamba Bypass is also part of the approved investment proposals. Several hotel and commercial projects are also in the pipeline.

Officials said a key factor behind the steady progress is that most investors have already secured land, removing major hurdles to project execution. The investments are expected to boost trade, employment, and revenue generation in the district.

In a parallel development, plans are underway to develop a major industrial area in Bijauli village along the Ganga Expressway. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has initiated an online process for the sale of industrial plots, primarily aimed at heavy industries. Investment proposals worth around Rs 10,000 crore are currently under consideration at the state government level.

Global and domestic companies have shown keen interest in the project. Representatives of Ball Beverage Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of US-based Ball Corporation, have visited the site and proposed an investment of Rs 3,000 crore. Tata Power has also expressed interest in setting up a large semiconductor plant with a proposed investment of Rs 3,000 crore, subject to approvals.

Japanese firm Sui Moto has proposed an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, while Singapore-based Sembcorp is in discussions with the administration. Among Indian companies, AG Greenpack plans to invest over Rs 1,000 crore. Officials said teams from more than 50 companies have visited the site in recent months, and over 1,000 applications for land have already been received.
