Intersections in the Meerut city will also play a role in reducing traffic congestion, with plans to widen 50 of them, the Meerut Development Authority (MDA) has tasked the Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC) with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this purpose. The administration recently approved the proposal to widen the intersections under the Integrated Development Plan. Approximately Rs 200 crore will be spent on this.

Redevelopment Features: Statues And Free Left Turns

The intersections within the city will be redeveloped. Statues will be installed at all these intersections according to the available land. The size of the statues will vary. Free left turns will be provided on all sides. Nearby encroachments will be removed. Nearby electricity poles and all types of equipment will be moved underground. The shape of the roundabouts will be changed.

Addressing Current Traffic Bottlenecks

Currently, the lack of a left-turn lane at intersections forces vehicles to wait for long periods. Encroachment on all sides also makes it difficult for vehicles to turn left. At several intersections, poles or transformers are located very close to the road, which also obstructs the smooth flow of traffic.

Tenders already issued for four intersections. Work on these intersections will now gain momentum. At the Bachcha Park, Tejgarhi, Hapur Adda, and Commissioner's Residence intersections, there will be a designated area for e-rickshaws. E-rickshaws will be able to park 100 metres away from the intersection.
