A 14-year-old boy's addiction to the online game Free Fire led to a devastating family tragedy on Monday after his father discovered the family's bank account had been emptied. The boy, Yash, a class six student, took his own life after confessing to spending Rs 1,300,000 (13 lakh rupees) on the game.
The tragedy began when his father, Suresh Yadav, a farmer from Dhanuasand village, went to the bank to withdraw Rs 20,000. He was stunned when the cashier informed him there were no funds left in the account. A bank statement revealed that money had been repeatedly transferred online.
Suresh then went to his son's coaching class, where he questioned Yash about the missing funds. Initially hesitant, Yash eventually admitted to his coaching teacher that he had lost the money in an online game. After being scolded by his family, he revealed he had spent the entire Rs 1.3 million on Free Fire.
Following the confession, Yash ran home. When his father and sister, Gungun, arrived later, they discovered that Yash had gone to the second floor and taken his own life by hanging. Yash was the family's only son.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajnish Verma, the investigation revealed that Yash had been playing the game for several months, making multiple small transactions every day. As the family shared a single mobile phone, Yash was the only one who saw the transaction alerts, and the activity went unnoticed. The police have seized the phone for examination and are gathering further details from the bank.

A Similar Tragedy In August
This is not an isolated incident. On August 21, a young man named Siddharth from Azamgarh took his own life in Gomtinagar Extension. He left a suicide note explaining that his addiction to online gaming was causing distress to his family, and he was taking his life to prevent himself from losing more money.
