With the expansion of Muradnagar, Ghaziabad, and the establishment of new colonies, several electricity substations are facing loads beyond their capacity. To address this, the Electricity Corporation has begun work to enhance the capacity of three substations, aiming to improve services for nearly 10,000 consumers.
Muradnagar currently has 15 substations of varying capacities, including 5 MVA, 10 MVA, 15 MVA, and 20 MVA. Responding to frequent public demands, the Corporation has identified Old Muradnagar, Asalatnagar, and Goyal Ispat substations for upgrades in the first phase.

Under the plan, Old Muradnagar’s capacity will be raised from 5 to 8 MVA, while Asalatnagar and Goyal Ispat will both be upgraded from 5 to 10 MVA. Work has already begun at Old Muradnagar, while the other two will be completed by the end of the month. Officials said the move will directly benefit around 7,000 local consumers.
Alongside substation upgrades, the Corporation has also launched a campaign to tackle the issue of overloaded consumer connections. Many residents are reportedly using more power than their sanctioned load; for example, consumers with a 2 kV connection often consume 4 kV, while those with a 4 kV connection use 6 kV or more. To avoid higher connection charges, over 5,000 such consumers have not officially upgraded their connections.
Under the ‘Vidyut Nigam Aapke Dwaar’ campaign, a survey is being conducted to identify such users based on electricity bills and increase their sanctioned capacity accordingly.

“The capacity of substations is being enhanced to relieve consumers from frequent overloading and power cuts. In the coming days, more centres will be upgraded based on demand,” said Durgesh Kumar, Executive Engineer, Muradnagar.
