The Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted to investigate the death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, arrived at the Noida Authority's Sector 6 office on Friday.
According to a report by Jagran.com, statements will be recorded from people present at the scene and the relevant department.
The main gate of the Noida Authority was closed before the SIT arrived. An SDRF bus is also stationed outside the office. The SIT will question people present at the scene to gather a complete picture of the events leading up to Yuvraj Mehta's death on the night of January 16.
Police officers were present at the Noida Authority office even before the SIT arrived. With files in hand, the CFO, ACP, SHO, CMO, SDRF personnel, and officials from other departments also arrived to record their statements.
The main gate of the Noida Authority has been locked, while entry is controlled. The Joint CP is also present on the spot to monitor the inspection process.
Today, statements will be recorded from a total of 125 people from the Noida Authority, the Fire Department, the SDRF, and the relevant police departments. The SIT will prepare a report based on these statements and submit it to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Following the report, action is likely to be taken against the erring officials.
The three-member SIT was formed by UP CM Yogi Adityanath to probe the death of Mehta, who drowned in a 70-foot pit, dug for the basement of an under-construction building at Sector 150.
Due to dense fog, his car broke through a wall and plunged into a pit in the early hours of Saturday. Struggling for his life, Mehta, who worked with a Gurugram-based company, dialled his father for help. A delivery agent who tried to save the techie reportedly claimed that rescue efforts were delayed and suggested that the engineer could have survived if action had been taken more promptly.
Two builders have been booked in the case, while Noida Authority's CEO has been removed from his post.
