The polio eradication campaign was launched in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Sunday, with more than 1.06 lakh children administered polio drops on the first day. A total of 1,06,024 children were vaccinated at 1,042 polio booths set up across Noida and Greater Noida.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Narendra Kumar said that from Monday, health department teams will begin door-to-door visits to administer polio drops to children aged from birth to five years, aiming to cover a total of 4.55 lakh children in the district by December 20.

Dr Kumar noted that although India has been declared polio-free, vaccination drives continue in accordance with World Health Organisation guidelines due to the presence of polio cases in neighbouring countries. He stressed the importance of timely vaccination, stating that polio is a serious disease that can cause permanent disability but is preventable through routine immunisation and polio drops.

District Immunisation Officer Dr Ravindra Kumar Siroha said that the polio virus spreads rapidly and primarily attacks the nervous system of children. Deputy CMO Dr Ubaid Qureshi emphasised that every dose of the polio vaccine is vital for a child’s healthy and secure future and urged parents to ensure vaccination of all children up to five years of age.
