Uttar Pradesh: Travelling from eastern Uttar Pradesh to Nepal is set to get much easier as the government has approved the expansion of the existing national highway to six lanes at a cost of Rs 27,927 crore. This project will strengthen connectivity between the Terai region of eastern Uttar Pradesh, the international Buddhist pilgrimage site of Shravasti, and the neighbouring Nepal border.
While the six-lane expansion will strengthen connectivity to border districts, it will also support the local economy by facilitating tourism, trade, and employment opportunities, Jagran.com reported.
Six-Lane Highway To Connect Eastern UP-Nepal
- The central government on Monday sanctioned Rs 27,927 crore to upgrade the national highway in eastern Uttar Pradesh's Terai region to six lanes.
- The six-lane route will connect the Terai region of eastern Uttar Pradesh to the international Buddhist pilgrimage site of Shravasti, and neighbouring Nepal, the report added.
- The six-lane highway will benefit several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Barabanki, Bahraich, Gonda, Balrampur, and Shravasti, while ensuring seamless access to major tourism sites such as Katarnia Ghat, Dudhwa, and Sohelwa.
Four-Lane Highway Serves As A Crucial Link To Nepal
The national highway, currently running from Barabanki to the Rupaidiha border, serves as a vital route to Nepal. The route handles an average of 20,000 vehicles every day. To meet the rising demand, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to upgrade the 153-km-long highway to six lanes.
A four-phase survey has been finalised, and land acquisition is underway on both sides of the route to accommodate the transition to a six-lane standard.
