A man-eating wolf, the last free-roaming Bhedia from a group of six wild attackers, on Tuesday night, attacked an 11-year-old girl in UP’s Bahraich. The victim has been undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Mahasi.
"Wolf attacked an 11-year-old girl tonight. The girl was admitted to CHC Mahasi and is under treatment," Mahasi CHC in charge told news agency ANI.
As many as six wolves had sparked a wave of terror across several villages in Bahraich. Uttar Pradesh Forest Department, however, managed to capture five of them in a vehement operation involving several agencies. The sixth Bhedia still remains elusive. A pack of six wolves in the area has killed eight people and injured more than 20 since mid-July.
The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department launched "Operation Bhediya" to capture a pack of wolves involved in recent attacks across 25-30 villages in Mahsi tehsil, within the Bahraich range of the Bahraich Forest Division. To monitor their activity and aid in their capture, the Forest Department set up snap cameras at likely wolf habitats throughout the area, helping track their movements. Drones were also used to capture the wild creatures.
On Tuesday, the authorities managed to capture the fifth wolf as part of the. It was captured using the pugmark technique near the Ghaghra River close to Harabnspur Village.
