The Uttar Pradesh government has achieved a historic milestone in the social security of senior citizens. In 2025, a record 9,83,000 new eligible elderly people have been added under the 'National Old Age Pension Scheme'. With this, the total number of beneficiaries in the state has now crossed 67,50,000.
On the Chief Minister's directive, the Social Welfare Department has made comprehensive changes to the pension distribution system. Now, through Aadhaar-based verification and continuous digital monitoring, it is being ensured that money from the government treasury reaches only eligible individuals.
Under a verification drive, the names of 3,32,000 deceased and ineligible beneficiaries were removed from the list in 2025, whereas this number was 1,77,000 in 2024.
The Yogi government, through technological innovation, has linked the 'One Family-One Identity' (Family ID) system to the pension scheme.
"Now, the elderly will not need to make rounds of offices. Through the Family ID, as soon as an eligible citizen reaches 60 years of age, their data will be automatically verified, and the pension process will begin," said Aseem Arun, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Social Welfare.
