In a move aimed at strengthening technological proficiency in the education sector, the UPgovernment has made Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) based courses mandatory for all teaching and non-teaching staff in state-run schools. The directive has been issued by the Secondary and Basic Education Department under the Mission Karmayogi (iGOT) portal.
As per the instructions, principals, headteachers, teachers and administrative staff have been asked to enrol in the prescribed AI- and ML-based courses and complete them by March. The initiative seeks to promote innovation, improve efficiency and enhance technical understanding in both academic and administrative work.

To ensure smooth implementation, the department has circulated a list of key AI-based courses to all concerned offices, so that staff members do not face any difficulty in accessing the training modules.
Officials said that while Uttar Pradesh currently ranks first in the country in terms of registrations on the iGOT portal, it stands fourth in course completion. The government now aims to top the completion rankings as well. All departments have been directed to treat the matter as a priority.
Under the new guidelines, each staff member will be required to complete at least one course per month from the 57 recommended training programmes available on the portal. This makes it mandatory for employees to complete a total of 12 courses by March 31.
