Following the deaths caused by contaminated water in Indore, the UP Government has issued directives to ensure the regular inspection of sewer and water pipelines to provide clean drinking water in urban areas across the state.

In a government order issued to the Director of Local Bodies, Municipal Commissioners, and the Managing Director of the Jal Nigam, Principal Secretary (Urban Development) P. Guruprasad clearly stated that any damage or leakage in sewer and drinking water pipelines must be repaired immediately. He has also instructed that the water tanks supplying the city residents be cleaned regularly.

The State Government has issued detailed guidelines to ensure clean drinking water for urban residents in the wake of the Indore tragedy. The guidelines mandate that tube wells, hand pumps, pipelines, water tanks, and other equipment be operated and maintained in a manner that ensures an uninterrupted water supply.

Specific instructions have been given to collect and test water samples directly from the consumers' tap usage points. The directives require conducting the OT (Orthotolidine) test for chlorine levels, as well as virological, bacteriological, and chemical analyses of the water samples.

The Principal Secretary has directed that old water pipelines be replaced on a priority basis. Furthermore, a detailed report on the actions taken regarding the supply of clean drinking water must be submitted to the government within a week.

To ensure there is no negligence in this matter, the Principal Secretary has warned that any form of laxity or carelessness will be viewed seriously, and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
