Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Make in UP’ initiative, Uttar Pradesh is set to emerge as a major hub for medical technology on the global stage. Invest UP and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) have handed over a Letter of Intent (LoI) for 10 acres of land in the Medical Devices Park to Shukra Pharmaceuticals Limited.

The Rs 587 crore investment is expected to generate around 2,900 direct and indirect employment opportunities while significantly reducing India’s dependence on imported medical devices. The project aims to manufacture world-class, affordable medical equipment within the country.

A key highlight of the project is the indigenous manufacturing of Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) technology, considered one of the most advanced treatment methods for complex and severe cancers. Until now, India has relied on foreign countries for access to this cutting-edge technology.

The facility will also manufacture critical cardiology devices, including heart valves, stents and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs). In the imaging and radiology segment, equipment such as CT scanners, MRI machines, PET scanners and ultrasonography systems will be produced domestically.

In addition, the unit will focus on next-generation healthcare solutions, including AI-powered and robotic surgical systems. These will include soft-tissue surgical robots, orthopaedic and dental robotic systems, and advanced neuro-spine robotic platforms for complex brain and spinal surgeries.

The project will also contribute to skill development and medical education through the establishment of advanced medical simulators, aimed at enhancing the training of doctors and paramedical staff.

Officials said the project reflects Uttar Pradesh’s progress toward ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, positioning the state as a centre for high-tech innovation. With indigenous cancer treatment technologies, affordable diagnostics and precision robotic surgery, the upcoming med-tech hub is expected to play a key role in strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure.
