In Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri, a man allegedly shot dead a couple in his neighborhood after they repeatedly taunted him over his sister eloping with another man. Police have arrested the two accused and recovered the stolen jewelry along with two pistols.
According to NDTV, the accused, Anand, was repeatedly mocked by victim Mahesh Chandra and his family because Anand’s sister had eloped with a man from a different caste. Enraged, Anand and Chandra’s cousin’s son-in-law, Arjun, conspired to kill Mahesh and rob his home. They also targeted the jewelry at Chandra’s house, which was being prepared for his son’s wedding on February 18.
