Ankita Bhandari Murder Case: The Congress on Saturday held state-wide protests and burned effigies in Uttarakhand, demanding that the name of the VIP involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case be revealed and a CBI investigation be conducted under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge. Workers of the opposition burned an effigy of the government at the Yamuna Colony intersection in Dehradun.
In Dehradun, NSUI (National Students' Union of India) workers staged a protest at the District Magistrate's office, demanding justice for Angel Chakma (Tripura student killed in Uttarakhand) and Ankita Bhandari. When the gate to the District Magistrate's office was closed, some workers climbed over the gate to protest. Police tried to stop them, but the students pushed the gate open.
Several Injured In Clash Between Police, Protesters
Meanwhile, in Rudrapur city of the Kumaon region, Congress workers reached the Collectorate demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari and clashed with the police. Three to four police personnel and several Congress workers were injured in the scuffle and subsequent lathi-charge.
'Justice for Ankita Bhandari' March in Srinagar
A 'Justice for Ankita Bhandari' march was organised in Srinagar under the leadership of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Ganesh Godiyal. The march started from the NIT Uttarakhand gate, passed through Pauri Chungi, and ended at Gola Bazaar. Upon reaching Gola Park, the march transformed into a public meeting. A large number of Congress workers and local people participated in the march, raising slogans demanding justice for Ankita and an investigation into the VIP's involvement.
Black Flags Shown To BJP State President
Congress workers showed black flags to BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt, who had arrived in Kotdwar. The Congress workers were demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari. State President Mahendra Bhatt arrived in Kotdwar on Saturday and stayed at a hotel in the Defence Colony on Najibabad Road. Congress workers learned of his presence at the hotel, after which a large number of protesters reached there and started raising slogans against the government and the state president. Bhatt was shown black flags as he was leaving the hotel.
He then proceeded towards the Paniyali guesthouse. There, near Buddha Park, Congress workers again showed him black flags and staged a protest demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari and a CBI investigation into the case.
