Following recent snowfall, traffic has resumed on several motor roads in the Chakrata region, but slippery conditions persist due to frost forming on the snow. The administration has appealed to tourists to obtain information about the weather and road conditions before travelling to hilly areas and to drive with caution.
Due to the snowfall, the Lokhandi, Koti Kanasar, and Churani motor roads, which fall under the Chakrata-Mussoorie-Tyuni national highway, were completely closed on Friday. Fortunately, following the efforts of the relevant departments, several routes have been reopened to traffic since Monday.
However, on the Deoban and Moila Top routes, the formation of frost has made the snow as hard as stone, creating slippery conditions. This route will only be opened after it is declared safe. Drivers travelling from Chakrata to Lokhandi also need to exercise caution, as frost has formed in places, making the snow slippery.
Restoring the power supply, which has been disrupted since last Friday, has become a challenge for the team at the Chakrata electricity sub-division. Due to bad weather and technical obstacles, the electricity supply could not be fully restored on Thursday either. Currently, around 40 villages have been in darkness for seven days, affecting the lives of the villagers.
Electricity has not been restored in the villages of the Tiger Fall area, especially in Samog village. Here, due to a broken high-tension line, power has not reached approximately forty villages. Electricity teams are working around the clock on repairs, but progress is slow due to the difficult hilly terrain and adverse weather.
After the second snowfall of the winter season, panoramic views can be seen in the higher areas of Chakrata. In the bright sunshine, the snow-covered mountains are glistening like silver. A large number of tourists are arriving here, which is boosting the local tourism business.
This time, tourists from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan have been attracted by the beauty of Chakrata. Local traders believe that this year's tourist season could be record-breaking. The administration has made special arrangements for traffic management and security.
