The Dehradun Irrigation Department has launched a major encroachment removal drive in Dakra Bazaar, marking illegal constructions to facilitate the proposed road widening from Garhi Chowk to the Military Hospital (MH). A departmental team carried out measurements at four locations and identified unauthorised structures, marking them with red paint.
During the operation, officials faced minor resistance from locals; however, several individuals requested time to remove the encroachments on their own. The department has granted a three-day grace period, warning that demolition action will follow if the structures are not removed within the deadline.

Illegal constructions, such as shops, extended flooring, boundary walls, and stairs, on Irrigation Department land have long hindered the widening project in Dakra Bazaar. On Tuesday, officials measured existing structures, determined boundary limits, and identified unauthorised portions. Following the inspection, some residents voluntarily began dismantling structures built on government land.
According to officials, those who fail to remove the encroachments within three days will face departmental action. The Irrigation Department has affirmed that the encroachment-removal process will continue.

Assistant Engineer Pawan Kumar Silwal, JE Anil Joshi, Deputy Revenue Officer Harish Joshi, Kamal Pandey, and other staff were present during the drive.
