China is facing multiple disasters at the same time, with a deadly factory fire in Fujian province and severe flooding in southern parts of the country. At least 28 people were killed after a massive fire broke out at a shoe factory, while heavy rains and floods have claimed 39 lives in the Guangxi region.
28 Killed In Fujian Shoe Factory Fire
A massive fire broke out at the Huiteng Shoes factory in Jinjiang city of Fujian province on Thursday, killing at least 28 people. According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, the fire started around 12:04 pm local time at the factory located on Kaituo Road East in Jiangtou village. Videos shared on Chinese social media showed huge flames engulfing parts of the factory. Some people were seen trapped on the rooftop, calling for help as rescue teams worked to reach them.
Hundreds Of Snakes Escape Flooded Farms
The floods have also created an unusual problem in Guangxi, as hundreds of snakes escaped from breeding farms after floodwaters hit the region. According to reports, around 900 snakes are believed to be missing. Videos on social media showed snakes moving through floodwaters while residents and authorities tried to catch them. A woman in Hengzhou reportedly died after being bitten by a snake.
Typhoon Bavi
Meanwhile, China’s eastern coast is preparing for a powerful typhoon 'Bavi' expected to bring more heavy rainfall in the coming days. The storm is forecast to pass north of Taiwan before making landfall near Zhejiang or Fujian provinces on Saturday.
