New Delhi: A day after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a lookout for Indian national Harmanveer Singh, he was finally arrested on Tuesday. According to the statement released by the FBI, he was wanted for his alleged involvement in a transnational criminal organisation engaged in a conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances— a drug or chemical whose manufacture, possession, and use are strictly regulated by the government because of their potential for abuse, addiction, and harm.
Singh was arrested on Tuesday morning in Stockton, California.
Harmanveer Singh was associated with Ravinder Dhanda gang
As per the FBI, the crime organisation known as The Ravinder Dhanda gang is based out of Vancouver, Canada, and allegedly smuggled bulk quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine for drug trafficking throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The FBI action followed Operation Hard Ball, a coordinated international enforcement action targeting the gangs run by Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Ravinder Dhanda.
In a joint operation earlier this month, law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada, and Europe arrested 24 persons,11 of them in California, connected to three India-based transnational organised crime groups charged with a litany of criminal acts. In total, the US Department of Justice had charged 37 people in the indictment as part of its 'Operation Hardball'.
Alongside the search for Singh, authorities have launched a manhunt for Goldy Brar, with the FBI announcing a reward of USD 50,000 for information leading to his arrest.
Nitish Kaushal arrested
Earlier on July 16, the Border Patrol apprehended another Indian national, Nitish Kaushal, a fugitive on the FBI's Most Wanted List, near the US-Canada border in Alburgh. The incident began at approximately 2 am when agents from US Border Patrol's Swanton Sector discovered a disabled and abandoned vehicle blocking Blair Road in Alburgh.
