A 32-year-old man has been arrested nearly seven months after his Indian-origin partner was found murdered in Toronto, Canada. Himanshi Khurana, 30, was found dead inside a residence in Toronto on December 20 last year. At the time, Toronto Police described the case as an act of intimate partner violence and launched a manhunt for her partner, Abdul Ghafoori, who was wanted on a charge of first-degree murder.

Accused arrested after 7 months

Police said Ghafoori was arrested on Friday at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Authorities did not disclose the country he had been in before returning to Canada. According to a statement released by Toronto Police on Saturday, officers from the Fugitive Squad and the Homicide Unit worked closely with national and international law enforcement agencies to locate and bring the suspect back to Canada.

“Members of the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad and Homicide and Missing Persons Unit liaised with national and international policing partners to facilitate the accused’s return to Canada. On Friday, August 7, 2026, Abdul Ghafoori, 32, of Toronto was located and arrested,” according to the statement.

Ghafoori is now in police custody and is expected to face first-degree murder charges in connection with Khurana's death.

“He was charged with first-degree murder. He was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10 a.m., in room 105,” added the statement.

What happened on December 19?

According to the Toronto Police, officers were first alerted late at night after receiving a report of a missing person. "On Friday, December 19, 2025, at approximately 10:41 p.m., police responded to a call for a Missing Person in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area," police said in a statement.

The following morning, officers made the grim discovery. "On Saturday, December 20, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers located the missing female deceased inside a residence," police said, adding that the death was being treated as a homicide.

Police confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other. Investigators said the case appears to involve "intimate partner violence", CBC News reported, quoting police sources.

Since then, the police have been searching for the accused.
