Iran has submitted its response to a US proposal aimed at ending the war that has continued for more than two months, Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency reported on Sunday.
According to IRNA, the proposal was sent through mediator Pakistan and currently focuses on efforts to end the conflict, as per Reuters reported. The IRNA report said the response, sent to mediator Pakistan, would focus at this stage on ending the war, though no details were immediately available.
After nearly 48 hours of relative calm following sporadic clashes last week, hostile drones were detected over several Gulf countries on Sunday, underlining the continuing threat facing the region despite a month-old ceasefire.
Iran’s response came after US President Donald Trump told Fox News on Wednesday that Tehran had one week to respond to Washington’s proposed peace deal.
"They want to make a deal. We've had very good talks over the last 24 hours, and it's very possible that we'll make a deal," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday, saying later, "it'll be over quickly."
Earlier, Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, met the country's head of armed forces unified command, Ali Abdollahi, and provided him with new guidelines on war as tensions persist with the United States in the Strait of Hormuz.
Ali Abdollahi, who commands the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, was provided with "new guiding measures to pursue military operations and firmly confront adversaries," according to Farsh news agency, Iran's semi-state news agency.
According to the report, Abdollahi met the Supreme Leader and briefed him on the readiness of the country's armed forces to deal with any adversary.

At the same time, Pakistan is continuing to mediate during the ceasefire. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Sunday that he received a call from his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, during which the two leaders discussed the evolving regional situation and reviewed ongoing peace efforts.
