Donald Trump's speech also comes amid continued disruptions in operations at the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for the passage of oil that has been largely blocked for vessels since the beginning of the war. Besides, crude prices have also seen an uptick over the past few weeks, with markets in turmoil and economic growth threatened worldwide.
Even as Trump insists that talks are underway, Iran has denied any direct negotiations with US officials. The US President recently said in a post on Truth Social that Iran is seeking a ceasefire, but clarified that it won't happen until the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. “Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion, or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!" Trump said.
