Bali Fuel Crisis: A video showing long queues of cars and motorcycles outside petrol stations in Indonesia’s Bali has gone viral on social media. The clip comes amid reported fuel shortage in the country with many petrol stations also closed. It has also raised concerns about the impact of the global fuel crisis, as supply disruptions and rising pressure on energy supplies continue to affect several countries amid regional conflicts.

Bali Faces Severe Fuel Shortage

According to Reuters, Bali has been facing fuel supply disruptions since late last week, leading to long queues at petrol stations and heavy traffic across the island. Denpasar, Kuta, Badung, Jembrana, Tabanan and Klungkung are among the affected areas. In Jembrana alone, 14 petrol stations have been affected.

Earlier on Thursday, hundreds of people protested outside the governor's office, demanding a better response from the authorities. Some drivers said they had to wait for four to eight hours to get fuel. According to Indonesia's state-owned energy company Pertamina, the disruption was caused by delays in fuel distribution after a tanker faced problems unloading its cargo.

Rising Global Fuel Crisis?

The situation has renewed attention on the raging global fuel crisis that has been linked to the war involving Iran, the United States and Israel. The conflict has disrupted oil supplies and shipping routes and raised concerns about fuel availability worldwide. The situation has become more tense as the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas shipments, continues to face disruption. Similarly, attacks by Houthi militants on ships in the Red Sea and energy facilities in Saudi Arabia have further added to the concerns over fuel crisis.

Countries Affected By Fuel Shortages

Amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, several countries are reporting fuel supply problems or taking emergency measures. The countries hit by shortages are as follows:

-Bangladesh: Authorities have introduced power cuts, gas rationing and early commercial closures.
-Indonesia: Fuel queues and localised shortages have affected Bali and other areas.
-Pakistan: The government has ordered fuel-saving measures.
-France: Fuel station outages have been reported, particularly in the Grand Est region.
-Russia: Drone strikes on refineries have contributed to localized fuel shortages.
-Nepal: Supply disruptions have affected vehicle fuel and cooking gas.
-Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan: Disruptions to Russian fuel exports have contributed to regional shortages.
