America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has added fugitive Indian gangster Goldy Brar to its top 10 most wanted list, announcing a reward of up to 1 million dollars leading to his capture. The investigative agency on Monday said that Brar is wanted by the US for his alleged involvement with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang involved in the killings, shootings, kidnappings, extortion, and drug and weapons trafficking in the US, Canada, and elsewhere.
The hunt for Brar, intensified under Operation Hardball, a multi-national operation, targetting three India-linked crime groups, including Bishnoi gang, the Dhanda organised crime group and the Bhagwanpuria gang. All three operate in North America and beyond. Amid the investigation, the authorities so far have captured 37 individuals in connection with extortion, drug trafficking and so on.
What did the FBI say?
Announcing the search and reward, the FBI Los Angeles Field Office Assistant Director in Charge Patrick Grandy said, “Satinderjeep Singh, also known as Goldy Brar, is a dangerous individual, and the FBI and our partners have made it our priority to apprehend him, which is why we’re adding him to the FBI’s list of Top Ten fugitives and offering a reward of up to $1 million dollars for his capture.”
“The amount of attention this list will bring to his face and description cannot be overstated; his photo will be found on every FBI-affiliated website and social media platform and will be publicised on every phone around the world until he’s caught,” Grandy added.
What are the charges against Brar?
The American investigative wing said that Brar is allegedly the North American leader of the Bishnoi group and faces federal charges including racketeering conspiracy, extortion-related offences and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.
The investigative agency have also accused Singh and Bishnoi of orchestrating the 2023 killing of a prominent political and religious figure in Canada. The FBI said the wider investigation has targeted Indian transnational crime groups involved in violent crime, extortion and drug trafficking.
The FBI asserted that Singh is believed to live in California and parts of Canada and should be considered armed and dangerous.
1 Million Reward For Brar
FBI Los Angeles official Patrick Grandy claimed the agency has been treating Brar as a top priority and has announced a reward of up to 1 million dollars
According to the FBI, Brar is the 543rd person to be added to its Ten Most Wanted list, which was created in 1950. Authorities urged the public not to approach him and instead provide information to law enforcement.
Brar’s cases in India
Indian authorities want Goldy Brar for high-profile murder, extortion, narcotics trafficking, and terror-related cases. Brar claimed responsibility for ordering the May 2022 assassination of the famous Punjabi singer.
India's Ministry of Home Affairs declared Brar a designated terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in January 2024 for cross-border arms smuggling and terror links. Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice to help locate and arrest him.
