An Indian YouTuber is facing heavy criticism online after sharing a video of being asked to leave a Buddhist temple in Thailand where he tried to stay overnight for free. The YouTuber, identified as Banshi, had gone to a temple in Udon Thani to sleep for the night as he was traveling without money. However, police officers and temple committee members asked him to pack up and leave.

Why Was He Asked To Leave?

Banshi runs a YouTube channel called Anything Banshi with around 17,300 subscribers. After his video went viral, netizens criticised him for traveling with zero money and expecting strangers and religious places to support him. They argued that travelers should respect local customs, laws, and places of worship rather than taking advantage of local kindness.

While he claimed a monk allowed him to stay, the temple rules and authorities did not permit overnight stays for random travelers. He even refused to take help from the police and the temple staff, who offered to help him get a budget hotel room for 400 Thai baht a night. However, he refused help saying that he wanted to keep expenses at zero. As a result, he ended up sleeping at a petrol station instead.

Netizens React

Netizens shared strong opinions about his actions. A user wrote, "The Thai police were very kind to you, but your actions in this video are actually illegal and could get you deported. First, travelling with no money and asking for free stays is illegal. Tourists must have proof of funds (at least 20,000 THB). Second, temples are sacred places, not free campsites. Third, filming monetised YouTube videos on a tourist visa without a work permit is also against the law. Please respect the local laws. If you cannot afford a basic hotel, you shouldn't be traveling and taking advantage of local kindness."

"We have to do something about garbage content creators like this. Take an example like Johny Somalia, who is now spending times in South Korea Prison for being a public nuisance and a mega cunt to the locals. Thailand or anywhere shouldn't welcome them,” a second user said.

Another user added, "How did he even pass through Immigration? A traveler is required to have a certain amount of money on there person to be allowed in Thailand!!! Immigration should have prior knowledge of how travelers from India operate already!!!"

What Thai Rules Say

Under Thai immigration rules, foreign tourists must show proof of sufficient funds, typically at least 20,000 Thai baht per person during their trip. Traveling with no money and relying entirely on charity violates local laws. Moreover, staying overnight at a Thai temple is only allowed at select areas if you officially enroll in a structured meditation program.
